Join Our Mission: Lead the Charge to Improve the lives of animals in Italy

Humane Society International (HSI) is on the forefront of the battle to improve the lives of animals, in Italy, in the EU, and globally. We believe in a future where animals lead a life that is worth living, whether that is on a farm, in the wild, or as a companion. As we push forward with our ambitious campaigns in Italy on Trophy Hunting, Farm animal welfare, Fur, Animal Testing and Dogfighting, we’re searching for a visionary Country Director-Italy to spearhead these efforts. This is not just a job; it’s a call to action for change.

Role: Country Director Italy (Maternity cover)

Type: 6-Month Consultancy (24-32 hours/week).

Period: Mid-September 2024 – Mid March 2025

Location: Remote working—The person’s location will need to be in or near Rome, Florence, Milan, or Trieste.

 

About the Role

As our Country Director, you’ll be the driving force behind HSI’s campaign, external engagement and fundraising efforts in Italy. This role blends strategy with action, requiring someone who can not only dream big but also ground those dreams in practical, impactful initiatives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Management: Coordinate activities, monitor progress, take initiative, ensure alignment with HSI/Europe’s and global policies and strategies. For a passionate team of employees, individual consultants and agencies.
  • Campaign Strategy & Execution: Seamlessly coordinate campaign activities in Italy, both for Italian campaigns that are part of EU-wide campaigns and for local campaigns. Innovating and applying dynamic tactics to engage public, industry, and governmental stakeholders.
  • Budget Management: Take charge of the country budget, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently to maximize impact.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Keep a keen eye on progress, ready to pivot strategies as needed and communicate key updates to our team and stakeholders.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other HSI’s European Country Directors.

 

Who You Are

  • An experienced campaigner with a knack for influencing legislation and a track record of successful strategic campaign leadership, particularly in international settings.
  • A inspirational people’s manager with experience in managing teams.
  • A creative thinker passionate about animal welfare and keen to push the boundaries of traditional campaigning.
  • A superb planner with the skills to turn ambitious goals into tangible action plans and outcomes.
  • An effective communicator, fluent in Italian and English, with the ability to inspire teams and stakeholders towards common goals.
